Vogogna, an enchanting small village and the former capital of the Southern Ossola Valley, was already settled in the ancient times.
Traces of Celts are still found in the Mascherone Celtico, a reminder of the Celtic God Cernunnos. Its fame grew up in the centuries thanks to the medieval pilgrims’ route towards the European markets.
The glories of Vogogna prove its strategical and political value in the 14th century. Strolling the old town centre you can admire Palazzo Pretorio, the remarkable old town hall, Castello Visconteo, built in 1348, and Villa Biraghi, a fine and precious example of noble hall and now the head office of Parco Nazionale della Valgrande.
